ENGLISH VERSION

After President Samia attended Dubai Expo 2020 in February last year, various contracts were signed between the two countries. Among the contracts  signed are in the areas of mining, energy, ports, and digital services. One of the contracts that has leaked to the public is the port contract between Tanzania and the DP World company from Dubai. This agreement has created a buzz in the Tanzanian community because the terms of the contracts are exploitative, selling off the rights of Tanzanian citizens over their own resources to a foreign nation, Dubai. Tanzanians realize that the full independence of the country encompasses having economic independence that will be achieved only if we strive to use our own resources because the investment contracts signed by investors aim at profiting investors and not our country. Recognizing this, Tanzanians want the Government to look into how our country will benefit from these investment contracts without becoming enslaved to foreigners.

Within 60 years of independence as a nation we have failed to manage our resources. Not having a strong constitution has led us to a failure in holding government leaders accountable. The government has recently announced its plan to collect opinions of the people on the new constitution within the next three years, something that is not right because the opinions of the people have already been collected by the Warioba Commission. This is seen as their strategy to let the election year pass without having a new strong constitution at hand. At the moment, the people do not have a say on their own government, that's why the government does what it wants without regards to the people’s opinions. Therefore, the people must agree to bring about a public revolution in order to bring about a new constitution that will enable us to hold dishonest leaders into account.
