Maoni ya wananchi wengi juu ya mkataba wa bandari kati ya Serikali ya Tanzania na kampuni ya DP World yameupinga mkataba huu nakuisihi Serikali kuuvunja mkataba huu au kuubadilisha ili uwe na maslahi kwa taifa. Pamoja na hayo yote mawakili wamekuja hadharani kuuchambua mkataba huu, wasomi pamoja na viongozi mbalimbali maoni yote yakiwa yanaelekeza juu ya ubovu wa mkataba huu lakini Serikali imekua ikitoa vitisho vya wananchi wanaotoa maoni yao.na kwenda mbali kubambikiza kesi ya uhaini wa Dkt. Silaa, wakili Mwabukusi na Mdude. Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Dar-es-Salaam Chalamila ameongea wazi kwa wananchi kuwa watu wote wanaoupinga mkataba wa bandari wote wapo ndani. Kwa muujibu wa sheria waliowekwa ndani haipaswi kuzidi masaa 24 wawe wamepelekwa mahakamani lakini mpaka sasa serikali imeendelea kuwashikilia kina Mwabukusi. 

Mkataba wa bandari umeuza hadhi ya nchi yetu kujitegemea katika kufanya maamuzi yake katika rasilimali zake. Hii ndio sababu kubwa wananchi wanapinga mkataba huu, na miaka ya nyuma bunge letu lilipitisha sheria ya kulinda rasilimali ila leo hii linaendesha vikao vya kubadilisha sheria hiyo ili kuendana na mkataba wa bandari. Tumeshuhudia rais wetu akiwavua uongozi viongozi wanaosimama na wananchi katika haki. 

Haya yote yataendelea kutokea katika taifa letu mpaka tutakapokuwa na utawala wa sheria, ambaopo kuna uwajibishwaji hasa wa Rais. Kuhusu mkataba wa bandari, wananchi walishazungumza kwa amani lakini serikali imekataa kusikiliza ushauri wa wananchi hivyo ni muda wa watanzania kuchukuea hatua ya pili ya kutumia kwa nguvu njia nyingine za amani katika kuendelea kuisihi serikali iachane na mkataba huu.

The opinions of majority citizens on the port contract between the Government of Tanzania and the DP World company have opposed the contract and urged the government to break the agreement or make amendments so that it is in the interest of the nation. Despite all of this, lawyers, academicians and various leaders have come forward, analyzed the contract and all have come with opinions that point to the weakness of this contract, but instead of the government heeding to the opinions of the people it has been issuing threats to citizens who express their opinions.

 Dr. Silaa, lawyer Mwabukusi and human rights activist Mdude have been detained on the grounds of initiating movements to overthrow the government right after they aired their opinions opposing the DP World matter. The government has no regard for the freedom of expression as Dar-es-Salaam Regional Commissioner Chalamila has clearly stated in public that all people who were heard opposing the DP World contract are all detained. In accordance with the law, those who have been detained are to be brought before the court within 24 hours, but that has not been the case for those detained (Dr. Silaa, Mwabukusi and Mdude).

The DP World contract has traded our independence in making its decisions over our own resources. This is the main reason as to why citizens have come forward to oppose the contract. In the past our parliament passed a law to protect our resources, but today there are parliamentary sessions to change the law safeguarding our resources so as to accommodate the intergovernmental agreement with DP World.  

We have witnessed our President stripping off various leaders who stand with the citizens off from their positions. All this will continue to happen in our nation until we as a country have the rule of law, where there is accountability especially of the President. Regarding the DP World contract, the people have spoken their views peacefully but the government has refused to listen to the opinions of the people, hence it is time for Tanzanians to take the second step of using other peaceful means to continue urging the government to abandon the DP World contract.
