ENGLISH VERSION
Since private investment was introduced in the country, we have been assured of many benefits that would result from various investments, but as citizens, we have witnessed being left empty-handed. Contracts have been a burning coal in the heads of Tanzanians, every time there is a contract, what happens is that a foreign country or company takes advantage and Tanzania is left with regrets. Politicians are entering into contracts to sell off the country, they have been using this investment criterion as a way to sell the country to foreigners. After all this, the government is still struggling with bad investment deals. We have witnessed the citizens of Loliondo being forcibly evicted from their homes for conservation criteria but we have instead witnessed investors building tourist hotels in the same areas where native citizens were evicted, leaving them displaced from their areas to areas owned by other people, which leads to endless conflicts and sorrows amongst the people. In continuing to force the people out of Loliondo, the government has continued to block social services and recently there are reports of continuous invasion in the area.
We are currently witnessing the port saga after the Government signed an investment contract agreement with DP World. The port contract violates the country's constitution and has not aimed to raise Tanzania economically but to sell short the country’s port resources to foreigners. Despite the reputation of DP World being bad for the countries that it has invested in prior and the people opposing this contract, the Government is still determined to continue with this contract. It is a no-brainer that the Tanzanian government needs to make a quick and right decision of accepting that it has sold off its resources to foreigners and make amendments to rectify the contract with DP World or terminate the contract altogether. It is also time for Tanzanians to wake up and continue to demand and fight for the interests of their country.
