ENGLISH VERSION
The people have a say on matters concerning their country's resources, not the President, nor parliamentarians, nor any government leader. On the DP World investment on the country's ports the people were not involved because the government took an initiative to decide on behalf of the people, something that is not right because it has broken the law and the rights of the people who are the real owners in which power rests. After the port contract with DPW leaked to the public, Tanzanians have opposed the contract as it is not directed at benefitting this country. Tanzanians believe in productive investments that can move the nation from one stage to another. But this DPW port agreement has only made it clear that people were bribed in order to pass it. Tanzania has made a large investment in the port, so the adoption of this contract is equivalent to the waste of citizens' taxes as all ports authority and assets will be under DP World.
The biggest problem facing the country is the presence of a corrupt system that creates oppressive and cruel government agencies that protect thieves.Laws governing the country’s resource laws are set to control bad and exploitative contracts like the current contract with DP World, but government leaders deliberately break the law knowing that the law has no enough power to hold them accountable, and to assure themselves the administration CCM has been increasingly enacting laws to give them protection, and allow them to openly break the law. While the laws urge government leaders and citizens to protect resources, government leaders have been in the forefront in selling the country’s resources. Leaders are trampling on the constitution that they have sworn not to break. We have a leadership that lacks accountability, this is a major weakness of our constitution. Citizens should continue to remind each other that everything that happens in the country should be an incentive to demand a new constitution because what is happening is made possible by the weakness in the current constitution.
