Tanzania ni nchi ya kidemokrasia lakini kutokana na katiba mbovu tuliyonayo imempa Rais mamlaka makubwa kiasi kwamba hawajibiki popote. Hii imeipa nafasi Chama tawala kuongoza kwa kutumia mabavu ya dola katika utawala wake kiasi cha kutoheshimu sheria za nchi. Tumeshuhudia wananchi wakifukuzwa kwenye maeneo yao Loliondo kwa kutumia nguvu, waandishi wa habari, wanasiasa na wanaharakati wakitekwa, kuteswa na wengine kupotezwa maisha. Hii haina tofauti na mkataba huu wa bandari ambao Serikali haikuona haja ya kushirikisha wananchi katika hatua zake za awali. Wanaharakati na wasomi wanaopinga mkataba huu wa DP World wametisha na kukamatwa na wengine kuitwa kwa mahojiano kwenye vituo vya polisi. 

Dola imetumika kutekeleza maslahi ya chama tawala. Mkataba una changamoto nyingi lakini Serikali inatumia polisi kushinikiza mkataba huu kwa wananchi. Polisi wamekuwa wakikamata mawakili waliofungua kesi Mbeya kupinga mkataba huu wa bandari. Hii imeleta maswali mengi kwani kama Serikali inajua hakika kama mkataba huu ni salama kwa nini iogope wananchi kufungua kesi kiasi cha kutumia dola kukamata watu ovyo. Katika nchi ambayo nguvu ya dola ni kubwa kuliko nguvu ya wananchi, hivyo wananchi wana kazi kubwa ya kuimarisha umoja wao ili katika madai ya katiba mpya itakayoleta mageuzi ya mifumo yote ya udhalimu.

Tanzania is a democratic country but due to the outdated constitution we have, it has given the President so much power that he is not accountable anywhere. This has given the ruling party a chance to lead by using the power of the state in its administration to the extent of disrespecting the laws of the country. We have witnessed citizens being evicted from their areas in Loliondo using force, journalists, politicians and activists being captured, tortured and others losing their lives. This is no different from this port agreement in which the Government did not see the need to involve the people in its initial steps. Activists and intellectuals who oppose this DP World contract have been threatened and arrested and some have been called for questioning at police stations.

The state power has been used to implement the interests of the ruling party. The contract has many challenges but the Government is using the police to push this contract to the people. The police have been arresting lawyers who filed a case in Mbeya against this DPW contract. This has brought many questions to the citizens who question if the contract is safe, why should the government be afraid of citizens opening up a case to the extent of using state power to arrest people arbitrarily. In a country where the power of the state is greater than the power of the people, the people have a big task to strengthen their unity in order to demand a new constitution that will bring about the reform of all systems of tyranny.
