ENGLISH VERSION
As a country, there are no modest leaders otherwise today we would not be looking for investors to invest in our ports. We have spent more than one trillion to invest in our ports but today we are freely giving it to the Arabs. The DP World contract has many legal shortcomings and has dishonored Tanzanians. According to our constitution, our natural resources belong to the people, not to a group of people. The signing of the DP World contract did not involve the people, so it has no legitimacy, but all this happened because we have bad governance systems that place too much power to the President such that the President can easily disregard the opinion of the people. The president has so much power that he can give strict directives to the parliament and the police force. As a result of the President having too much power we have witnessed the media being silent in speaking the truth about the DPW port issue. This did not come as a surprise as it is clear to the people that the media is forcefully silenced from speaking out.
Tanzanian citizens have yet to fully use their potential in defending their ports from being freely given to foreigners. This is because most Tanzanians have little understanding of true democracy, making it easy for government leaders to convince them that democracy is just having a multiparty state. This has left many Tanzanians without the slightest idea of their rights and responsibilities in a democratic state in which power originates from the people. It is the citizens responsibility to criticize the Government when it is wrong. Tanzanians have to unite and join their efforts to criticize the Government in the ongoing Dubai Port World saga.
