ENGLISH VERSION
The issue concerning the country’s port being given to foreign Arab investors from Dubai has created chaos in the country because the agreements made and contracts signed were done in secret without public knowledge. This has raised doubts about the security of the country's resources. The majority of citizens have opposed the port contract between Tanzania and DP World, the main reason being that it is an exploitative contract which does not aim to develop the country. Tanzanian youths have come out to participate in a peaceful protest as part of raising their voices for the Government to open their eyes to what is currently happening, but these protests were stopped by the police.
The police having to forcefully arrest the protestors so as to put a stop to the peaceful protest are violating the people's rights and should be charged because protest is everyone's constitutional right. What makes the government prevent protests is the fear of having more Tanzanians knowledgeable on the dark truths concerning the DP World contract. Hence, the Tanzanian people should not give up and continue to use other peaceful means to ensure that every citizen gains awareness. In order to bring reconciliation in terms of development and return our nation of Tanzania to a democratic course, we need a new a new constitution. Citizens have called on the Government in power to give priority to resuming the process of getting a new constitution and revive the call for the President's powers to be reduced. The great powers of the President are a burden to the Nation because no one can lead the country effectively with unlimited powers without accountability.
