ENGLISH VERSION

Tanzania has signed several international treaties and agreements especially those that protect human rights, which are not faithfully followed nor implemented. Many of these agreements were also signed during the reign of the retired presidents Mkapa and Kikwete. Many countries of the third world, including Tanzania, do not have the political readiness when it comes to ratifying various international agreements as they sign these agreements but do not go further to make these agreements part of the country's laws, an issue that has led to the difficulty of international organizations such as the United Nations to monitor and enforce their implementation. Tanzania as a country of peace but has failed to sign the Convention against Torture. Citizens have suggested different ways to make the government follow through on these agreements. One of the ways includes educating citizens about their rights and responsibilities so that they know what steps to take when they see that justice is not being done or oppression is taking place. Other suggested ways are the use of non-aggressive demonstrations as well as collaborating with lawyers to write letters to the United Nations as a way to ask them to force the government to follow the agreement in the agreements.
