Demokrasia huwezesha wananchi wawe na usemi juu ya mifumo yao kama vile katiba. Katika nchi ya kidemokrasia wananchi wana uhuru wa kusema nini wanataka juu ya nchi yao na katiba ni kitu kimoja wapo. Nchi yetu pamoja na wananchi kutaka katiba mpya bado hatujawahi kuwa na katiba iliyotokana na wananchi.  

Sheria tulizonazo hazitungwi na bunge bali na dola, bunge limekuwa chombo cha kuhalalisha tuu sheria hizo. Katika demokrasia ya uwakilishi wabunge ni wawakilishi wa wananchi na kama hawashiriki kwenye kutunga sheria basi hakuna uwakilishi wa wananchi. Watanzania wanapaswa kujipanga kudai nchi yao kwani serikali yetu kusitisha swala la katiba ni wazi kwamba ni serikali ya kidikteta na inaongozwa kwa matamko ya viongozi hivyo hakuna demokrasia kwani demokrasia ni serikali ya watu na watu ndio wanaamua.

Democracy enables citizens to have a say on their governing systems such as the constitution. In a democratic country, citizens have a say on what they want concerning their country and the constitution is one and the same. In our country, regardless of the people’s demand for a new constitution, yet we have never had a constitution that came from the people. The laws that we have are not made by the parliament but by the government executive, the parliament has become a tool to legitimize those laws. 

In a representative democracy, Members of Parliament are representatives of the people and if they do not participate in making laws then there is no representation of the people. Tanzanian citizens should take initiative and organize themselves to demand for their country’s freedom through a new constitution as the reluctance of our government in resuming the constitutional reform process clearly shows that it is a dictatorial government guided by the decrees of those in power. True democracy does not exist in Tanzania because democracy is a government of the people and the people get to decide.
