Taasisi Imara Na Demokrasia. Tunajifunza Nini Kutoka Kenya?

ENGLISH VERSION

Tanzanians have admitted that Kenyans have left them far in terms of pursuing a true democracy. In comparison to Kenya, our governing system has been suppressing democracy and this is due to the weak constitution we now have. We have seen from our neighbor Kenya, that a strong Constitution has led to the presence of true democracy as it has ensured the presence of strong institutions. The independence of institutions such as the courts, the police force, independent election commission, and defense agencies is solely based on the existing constitution. Going back to the recent presidential election in Kenya, we have seen a great deal of democratic zeal where the presidential results were challenged in court and the court was able to resolve the election dispute to ensure that there is peace. Peace comes from exercising justice, and without justice there is no peace. Our constitution has given the president great powers where he owns other branches of the state. This has led to the deterioration of a true democracy because the president is above the rule of law. Tanzanians have agreed to fight for their right to get a new and strong constitution that will put everyone under the rule of law. Kenyans got a better constitution by their own efforts and therefore Tanzanians are now more than ever responsible to fight for their constitution.
