ENGLISH VERSION

Citizens have raised their voices on the charges that have been imposed by the government without involving the opinions of the citizens. Amidst the economic inflation, which is largely caused by the war between Ukraine and Russia, the Tanzanian government has failed to develop alternative ways to ensure that it collects taxes without hurting the citizens, but it has been imposing several tax charges. Recently the government has increased charges on petrol, diesel and kerosene which has also increased by almost 100 shillings per litre, charges on electricity meters - Pay Electricity As You Use (LUKU) and a charge on mobile money transactions imposed on all mobile networks. Charges on mobile money transactions have reduced money transactions and led to losses for mobile companies but also a setback for low-income citizens who use this service to run their businesses to allow savings, increase business productivity, stimulate and increase employment. For any serious government to be able to collect taxes, it must invest in infrastructure, human resources, etc. but that is not the case in our country. The increased burden of tax charges will lead to the exclusion of low-income people from financial inclusion. Citizens agreed that we have reached where we are now because the people who hold important positions in our government do not have the needed experience to serve those positions. We do not have leaders of the people but leaders who serve their own desires.
