Elections are not meant to be hostile but an act to simply exercise democratic rights. This discussion aimed to draw and learn from Kenya’s general election and how Tanzania as a country can change and build on such lessons. Some of the lessons learned from the Kenyan election is the importance of a good constitution, one in which the Kenyan people fought for, which does not allow the government to interfere or try to restrict internet communication during the election period. In Kenya journalists are free to broadcast news and the media is the given access it needs to make their work possible such as being allowed inside the polling stations. Our colleagues can go to court to challenge the election results, there is freedom to use the networks and the media to share election information and there is also the independence of the courts. Tanzanians realized that despite Kenya being an East African country, they have made great strides when it comes to effective democracy. Tanzanian citizens took upon it as a challenge to fight for better electoral systems starting with the need for a new constitution
